Military expenditure increased in all 15 countries with the highest military expenditure from 2023 to 2024. This was particularly the case in Israel; that increased military spending by 65 percent compared to 2023 amid Hamas' terrorist attack in October 2023 and the subsequent war in Gaza. Russia's militiary spending increased too, amid the invasion of Ukraine since February 2022.
