As of 2023, there were  companies in the United States dedicated to biotechnology, while, in comparison, Germany had around *** such companies. Biotech companies located in Massachusetts and in Northern and Southern California generate the highest amount of biotech revenue within the United States.

In the United States, medical biotechnology is a significant component of the entire biotech industry. Jobs in research, testing, and medical laboratories have increased significantly. 

Biotechnology is also commonly used in agriculture. Biotech crops in the United States account for more than half of the world’s total.
