U.S.-based quick service restaurant (QSR) chain Wendy’s franchised a total of *** units in Canada in 2018. The number of franchised Wendy’s establishments has been steadily growing over the past five years, and all company-owned Wendy’s stores were replaced by them as of 2014.  

 Canadian restaurant market 

With close to *** establishments, Wendy’s made it into a ranking of the leading restaurant chains in Canada by number of units, placing ****. At the top of the list was Canadian franchisor and operator the MTY Group with nearly ** units in 2018. Despite operating by far the largest number of restaurants in Canada, the MTY Group was surpassed by Canadian QSR chain Tim Hortons in terms of gross sales. In 2018, Tim Hortons reported gross sales of nearly ** Canadian dollars. Comparatively, Wendy’s Restaurants of Canada Inc. accounted for gross sales of around *** million Canadian dollars.    

 Which QSR chains do Canadian’s prefer? 

When asked which quick service restaurant they go to, if any, nearly ** percent of the Canadian’s surveyed stated they go to Wendy’s. However, McDonald’s was the QSR people tended to frequent the most, with over ** percent of the respondents stating it was the restaurant chain they turn to for fast food.
