* Poverty status is based on respondent age, family income, family size, and composition using the U.S. Census Bureau鈥檚 poverty thresholds. 鈥淧oor鈥 persons are defined as living in households where the family income is less than 100 percent of the U.S. Census poverty threshold. 鈥淣ear poor鈥 persons have incomes of 100 percent to less than 200 percent of the poverty threshold. 鈥淣ot poor鈥 persons have incomes that are 200 percent of the poverty threshold or greater.
