The source adds the following information:
"A children’s product is defined as any product designed or intended
for the care of or use by children under age 14. KID has expanded
this definition to include other products that pose risks specifically
to children such as window blinds (none recalled this year) and
dressers. Children’s products were further categorized for this report
by the type of product (clothing, furniture, kitchenware, nursery,
outdoor & sports, and toys)."

Recalls in units
Although 2007 saw the highest number of children’s goods being requested for return by their respective creators, the total number of product units recalled each year looks very different. That year, around ** million children’s product units were recalled in the United States. 2022 recorded roughly the same number of children’s product recalls but accounted for a total of over five and a half million units. In comparison, there were more than ** million units recalled in the U.S. in 2023.
Why do products get recalled?
Products are typically requested for return by the manufacturer when a substantial problem is found with said product. Manufacturers may issue a recall if a particular product does not meet quality standards, but product recalls are also commonly launched when the item has been deemed unsafe after reports of injuries or, in the worst case, deaths. Toys and other items for young children are often recalled for such reasons. In 2022, a high number of recalls were issued for kids’ products with reported incidents of choking and burning.
