Law 39/2006, of December 14, on the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Care for People in a Situation of Dependency (commonly known as the Dependency Law) established a System for Autonomy and Care for Dependency (SAAD), which is mainly managed by the autonomous communities. Its objective is to address the needs of those people who, due to being in a situation of dependency and special vulnerability, require support to carry out the essential activities of their daily lives.
