This statistic presents the percentage distribution of characters played by women in world cinema between 2016 and 2024, based on ethnicity. The presence of African American women had experienced a slight increase during the study period. Thus, while in 2016 they represented less than ** percent, in 2018 they accounted for ** percent of the total female characters. However, in the following two years, the proportion showed a decreasing trend. In 2021, the growth path was resumed, although not for long, as it decreased again in 2022 and 2023, before recording a slight increase in 2024. Specifically, African American women represented **** percent of female characters with spoken roles in that last year.
