This chart shows the number of cyclists killed or seriously injured, according to the road environment in France in 2022. That year, 244 people died while cycling, including 137 riding outside an urban area. 2,700 cyclists were victims of a serious cycling accident, with more than half occurring in an urban area.

Cycling in the city is therefore less deadly than outside urban areas but is more dangerous.
