Despite the COVID-19 crisis, prices in the real estate market within the OECD have increased significantly. Between the last quarter of 2019 and the last quarter of 2021, the purchase price of a house in the New Zealand real estate market soared, rising by more than ** percent. The United States is also affected, with an increase of **** percent, as are European countries such as the Netherlands with **** percent or Sweden with **** percent.
Moreover, the ratio between housing prices and income has only increased in recent years, with the growth in real estate prices exceeding income growth by ** points.
The countries least affected by this trend are those in Southern and Eastern Europe, where individuals mostly own real estate.
