Since 2012, the Canadian retail sector has been in continuous growth. In 2014, retail sales increased by *** percent, the best market performance in the past five years. An increase in sales was also recorded in all regions and subsectors.

Automobile and parts dealers contributed about ** percent of total retail sales in Canada in 2014, followed by food and beverage stores combined with nearly ** percent. New car dealers generated more than ** billion Canadian dollars in retail sales in 2014. The leading car brands Fiat Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Toyota, and Honda sold more than 100,000 vehicles in Canada in July 2015. Luxury brands such as Porsche and Jaguar sold nearly *** and *** units respectively. Gas stations constituted the third main retail subsector in terms of retail sales.

Ontario and Quebec, the most populous Canadian provinces, accounted for the largest share of national retail sales.
