This statistic shows the proportion of the population that is working compared to the total population, on average worldwide, according to age group and gender.

Worldwide, 20 percent of young women and 29 percent of young men aged 15 to 19 are already working. Then, as age increases, more and more people are working. Between 25 and 54 years old, more than 90 percent of the global male population is active in the workforce. However, from age 25, the gap between women and men widens. Women are only in the labor market at a rate of 65 percent between 40 and 49 years old and never exceed this rate. From age 65, the proportion of the active global population decreases sharply.
