In the last decade, passenger air traffic in regular service in Mexico had experienced steady growth, surpassing 100 million people transported in 2019. “Low-cost airlines conquer the national market”

Low-cost airlines have gradually been entering the passenger transport market, surpassing conventional airlines in some cases. An example of this is the Mexican low-cost airline, Volaris, which surpassed the Mexican flag carrier airline, Aeroméxico, in passenger transport to domestic destinations. Volaris is already among the most important airlines in Latin America, along with the also low-cost Brazilian airlines, Gol and Azul.
