Mexico is one of the main producers and soft drink markets in Latin America. Classic Coca-Cola was by far the most purchased soft drink in Mexico in the first quarter of 2021, with a 64.8 percent share of all sales. Considering the three variations of Coca-Cola (regular, zero, and diet), the American giant's share rises to 72.8 percent. Meanwhile, Pepsi secured 14.9 percent of the market.
Soft drinks, sodas, or carbonated beverages
The soft drink industry in Latin America has maintained steady growth in recent years. Specifically, during the second quarter of 2021, the sector's value increased by 11 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The region is abundant with brands and options to purchase this type of beverage. Therefore, it is not surprising that countries like Mexico and Brazil are in the world's top 15 per capita soft drink sales.
Coca-Cola in Latin America
Being such a vast market, Latin America is a major point of interest for The Coca-Cola Company. The subsidiary Coca-Cola FEMSA, based in Mexico City, is the group's largest bottler and has recorded in recent years sales exceeding 2.5 billion cases of 24 beverages of 8 ounces each, of which approximately 47 percent took place in Mexico and 23 percent in Brazil, thus becoming the two main markets in the region. The company has made continuous efforts focused on growth in the region, even acquiring local brands such as Yoli (Mexico), Kola Inglesa (Peru), Guaraná Jesús (Brazil), and Fioravanti (Bolivia) for production and commercialization.
