The Congress of El Salvador approved the use of bitcoin as an official currency alongside the U.S. dollar in June 2021. The proposed law came into effect on September 7, 2021, although the population is quite skeptical about its use, as they believe that bitcoin will mainly benefit the wealthiest. Thus, according to a survey conducted in August 2021, **** percent of the population of El Salvador had little or no confidence in the cryptocurrency. In contrast, *** percent of Salvadorans surveyed said they had some confidence and *** percent had a lot of confidence.
