This statistic represents the number of wolves in France between 2010 and 2022. At the beginning of the 20th century, the wolf had completely disappeared from French territory. The trend began to reverse starting in 1979 thanks to the Bern Convention, in which the wolf is classified as a "strictly protected species"; but it was only from the late 1990s that the first wolves were identified again in France. It should be noted that these estimates from the French Biodiversity Office (OFB) are necessary for establishing the quota of wolves that can be culled per year. The ministry has set a "harvest" rate at 19 percent of the total number of individuals counted by the OFB.
