The source specifies that "the totals in some charts may be greater than the number of crashes because of several factors, including multiple sources for the same crash and multiple entities reporting the same crash but with different information. Also, vehicles could have collided with more than one object and damage may occur in several areas of a vehicle."
Advanced driving systems (ADS) refer to systems where the user is not driving the vehicle when automated features are engaged.Â
Level 3 features still require the driver to take control of the vehicle when prompted to do so. These features allow for autonomous driving under limited conditions and will not operate unless these are met.
Level 4 features do not require the driver to take over driving. These features allow for autonomous driving under limited conditions and will not operate unless these are met. For example, local driverless taxis can have this level of autonomy.
Level 5 features do not require the user to take over driving. These features allow for autonomous driving under all conditions.
*"Other, see narrative" refers to information available in the narrative section of each crash report, including a description of the pre-crash, crash and post-crash details.
