Meat dishes were the most desired meals among business people commuting to the office in Japan, as revealed in a survey conducted in December 2024. Dishes such as "tonkatsu" (deep-fried pork cutlet) and hamburger steak enjoyed high popularity among men. Rice bowl dishes, such as beef bowls, "katsudon", "oyakodon", and "tempura don", followed, with **** percent of respondents desiring to eat so-called "donburi".
The survey revealed that rice balls ("onigiri") were the most commonly eaten food for lunch at work, benefitting from the simplicity and low price.
