At the beginning of September 2024, a historical trial was about to start in Avignon, southeast France.

Between 2011 and 2020, Dominique Pélicot the main defendant, recruited more than ** men on a dating website and invited them to his home in Mazan, for them to rape his wife Gisèle Pélicot, while she was unconscious due to the strong somnolent drugs he secretly administered to her. This trial is historical because at least ** men were identified in the videos Dominique Pélicot recorded of these criminal acts, and therefore they were all sitting in the dock.

According to a survey conducted just after the beginning of the trial, a large majority of respondents thought it should be an opportunity for everyone, especially men, to get involved in the fight against gender-based and sexual violence.
