In 2024, China led crude steel production in the Asia-Pacific region with an output of over * metric tons, significantly outpacing other major producers like India, Japan, and South Korea. The Philippines, on the other hand, produced the least amount of crude steel among the selected countries and territories in the region.
Steel is the world's primary construction material due to its durability, versatility, and affordability. Steel production is primarily carried out through two processes: basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS) and electric arc furnaces (EAF). In the Asia-Pacific region, BOS is more predominant than EAF.
