Werfen, a Spanish multinational specializing in medical devices, reported total sales of 2.1 billion euros in 2025. Sales figures for the company, founded in Barcelona, have increased since 2018. The company currently leads the medical technology sector in Spain, with two-thirds of total sales accounted for by the European and North American markets.
Werfen stands out in the Spanish market, largely surpassing global leaders such as Medtronic and Roche Diagnostics. In 2023, revenue generated by Werfen in Spain was nearly three times higher than that generated by Medtronic Ibérica. Within the healthcare sector, however, pharmaceutical companies and retailers, stand out, with Grifols, a Barcelona-based multinational, topping the list.
The medical technology industry in Spain is composed of over 5,000 companies providing direct employment to approximately 32,000 people, amounting to a density of seven medtech employees per 10,000 population. The highest share of manufacturing companies is accounted for by the categories of single-use medical devices, in vitro diagnostics, and electromedical devices.
