Emissions have been calculated using flared natural gas volumes based on standard cubic meters (standardized using a Gross Calorific Value (GCV) of 40 MJ/m3) and the standard conversion factor for emissions from the IPCC. Perfect combustion has been assumed.

In 2023, Russia was the biggest contributor to global flaring emissions.
