Jewish and Arab respondents were asked to rate the extent to which they feel empathy towards the other ethnic group on a scale of one to six: six: one = not at all; six = to a great extent.

Data is based on a series of surveys conducted by the source. The final survey was held between January 1 to 18, 2024. It included 1,036 respondents from Israeli society and was weighted in proportion to the national population. 533 respondents were Jewish, and 503 were Arab.

The October 2023 survey was conducted after the start of the Israel-Hamas war.

As of January 2024, Jewish Israelis rated their feelings of empathy towards Arabs at **** on a scale of ***. This represented the lowest level of empathy measured during the observed period. In the same January survey, Arab Israelis measured their empathy towards Jews at ***. In the period between March 2023 and January 2024, empathy trends between Jews and Arabs diverged. Following the Israel-Hamas war, which started on October 7, 2023, ethnic relations between Arabs and Jews in the country came under strain.
