In a recent study examining the fluorine concentration of selected bedding products, the Cottonloft StayClean Cotton Water and Stain Resistant Fiberbed Protector Set registered the highest fluorine concentration at 1,314 parts per million.Â
The use of materials with high fluorine concentrations in bedding is often related to their water-repellent properties. The use of water-repellent materials in bedding items is often achieved through the application of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) which have been linked to adverse health effects and long-lasting persistence in the environment.
