In 2023, 4.7 million companies were active in Italy, 29 percent of which headquartered in the north-west. Central Italy was the second most industrialized region, with around one million registered companies. On the contrary, only 410,000 businesses were run in Sicily and Sardinia, one third of the enterprises located in the north-west and only 8.7 percent of the total Italian factories.
