The PC market is expected to observe rapid growth in the proportion of PCs capable of handling artificial intelligence (AI) directly on the device. The share of AI-capable PCs among total PC shipments is forecast to grow from **percent in 2025 to ****percent in 2026.
Beyond the traditional processors found in PCs such as the central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU), AI PCs accommodate another key component in the form of the neural processing unit (NPU). These accelerators act as the brains behind AI, supercharging generative AI and machine learning tasks.
With AI chips finding their way into an increasing number of consumer devices, such as smartphones, wearables, and of course PCs, they will also be used in multiple enterprise markets, notably robotics and sensors. As a result, with their use cases extending and deepening, chip manufacturers will be tested to make sure demand is met as the AI revolution continues.
