According to a March 2024 survey, voters in the United States were divided on whether or not it should be possible to charge a former president with a federal crime for alleged crimes committed while in office. Due in part to former president Donald Trump facing a number of criminal allegations, the topic of trying former presidents has appeared to be more of a partisan issue. Approximately 94 percent of Democrats in the U.S. agreed that former presidents should be able to be tried for crimes committed in office. Comparatively, nearly half of Republicans disagreed.
