The government AI readiness index seeks to provide insights into the government's readiness to implement artificial intelligence in public functions.
The fundamental pillars of government AI readiness are the following:Â
1. Government: the Government needs to be willing to adopt AI, and able to adapt and innovate to do so; 2. Technology sector: the Government needs a good supply of AI tools from the technology sector; and 3. Data and infrastructure: these tools need to be built and trained on high quality and representative data, and need the appropriate infrastructure to be delivered to and used by citizens.

In 2024, Singapore was the most AI-ready government in the Asia-Pacific region, scoring out of 100 points in the government AI readiness index. In contrast, Afghanistan had a government AI readiness index score of in the same year, indicating a lower level of readiness for the implementation of AI in its public service delivery.
