As of 2021, Mexico and Uruguay were the only two countries in Latin America that had approved legislation related to the use of recreational cannabis. Another nine Latin American countries, including Argentina, Chile, and Colombia, had approved legislation related to the medicinal use of cannabis. As of 2023, an estimated *** people were considered users of medical cannabis in the region.Â
