Along with Portugal, the Nordic countries had the highest shares of final gross energy consumption coming from aerothermal heat pumps in Europe in 2023. Over *** percent of the energy consumed in Sweden was ambient heat obtained from heat pumps, with that number amounting to **** percent in Portugal. In Norway and Denmark, ambient heat from heat pumps also amounted to over percent of the energy consumption. There are, nevertheless, other types of heat pumps that do not obtain their energy from the ambient heat, such are the cases of geothermal and water-source heat pumps.
