In November 2017, an amendment to Russian law (276-FZ) increased the government’s scope for requesting URLs containing material banned in Russia to be removed from Google's online services, including Google Search.

During the second half of 2024, government and court bodies from Russia made 22,242 requests to remove content items from Google products. The highest figure over the observed period was recorded in the second half of 2023.
