In 2024, in Portugal, 26.5 percent of the recorded incidences of domestic violence occurred between spouses or partners. The most common victims when domestic violence was concerned were, however, children or stepchildren of the accused, at a share of 28.4 percent, while parents or stepparents were victims in 7.2 percent of incidences. Domestic violence between ex-partners constituted 7.2 percent of all occurrences in the country, while boyfriends and girlfriends were responsible for domestic violence in 5.1 percent of cases.
