As of 2023, over half of all retail investors surveyed in the United States were unsure of how to define an environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) strategy. Almost ** percent of investors perceived an ESG strategy to be a strategy that forgoes financial gain or risk reduction for the company in favor of non-financial goals, while less than percent saw no correlation between ESG strategies and a company's risk or financial return.
