*IMT refers to the Municipal Property Transfer Tax (Imposto Municipal sobre as Transmissões Onerosas de Imóveis) which is paid whenever a property is bought or sold. In 2024, the Portuguese government exempted people up to 35 years old buying housing for the first time from paying it.

In 2024, ** percent of respondents in Portugal believed that the governmental measure of providing full financing for the purchase of a property is positive. However, ** percent also thought that the exemption of young people from paying IMT and stamp duty will not facilitate housing purchases.
