Visa's total payment volume for their credit cards had grown by *** percent in the third quarter of 2023 compared to the same quarter one year before. This year-on-year growth rate was the first recorded increase since early 2021. Whilst the overall transaction value of Visa's credit cards remained around *** trillion U.S. dollars per quarter - and even increased between quarters - the aftermath coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and growing competition from alternative payments such as buy now, pay later (BNPL) led to an increasing decline in growth. As of the second quarter of 2025, Visa's transaction value has reached **** billion U.S. dollars, reflecting a year-on-year growth of *** percent.
