Public pension fund assets are managed by state-created agencies using a passive management strategy to enable long-term investment growth with the purpose to provide compensation for eligible citizens upon their exit from the workforce. Sovereign wealth funds are similarly structured. However, the purpose is often to generate profit for the state to use in times of need or to power specific state initiatives and projects.
