Global military spending has increased since 2000. Even though the most money was spent in the Americas in 2025, the rise is due to more money being spent on the military in Asia, where it went from about 204 billion U.S. dollars in 2000 to about 681 billion U.S. dollars in 2025—more than three times as much as was spent in 2000.

The United States is the world's largest military spender, whereas Ukraine had the highest military expenditure as a percentage of GDP.
