Over the course of 2022, the year when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, the highest number of malware attacks on Ukraine was recorded in July, at over *** million. Malware attacks were reported to be used by Russia on Ukraine as a form of cyber warfare. In the last three months of 2022, ransomware attacks accounted for the largest share of malware attacks on Ukraine. Attackers use ransomware to encrypt files on devices so that they can later demand ransom from the devices' owners in exchange for decryption.
