The production of natural gas in the United States averaged 125 billion cubic feet per day in 2023. The region with the highest production share was by far Applachia, at 29 percent. This was followed by Permian and Haynesville at 19 percent and 13 percent, respectively. As the natural gas production share of the three mentioned regions increased from 2012 to 2023, the production share of the rest of the U.S. decreased from 70 percent to 39 percent during the same timeframe.
