From 1997 to 2020, the prevalence of obesity in the adult population increased steadily in France. However, obesity rates have grown unequally among different age groups. From 1997 to 2020, the share of obese people was higher among older people. In 2020, roughly ** percent of people aged 55 to 64 suffered from obesity in France.
These figures revealed one exception among the eldest age group. Indeed, among French people aged 65 or older, obesity prevalence decreased from 2012 to 2020. As a result, during this period, obesity rates among 55-64 year olds surpassed that among ** and over ** year olds.
