In the week to November 25, 2022, there were 88,212 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Australia. After two major coronavirus outbreaks in 2020, Australia managed to maintain a very low number of coronavirus infections with a policy of strict border restrictions and hotel quarantine for interstate and international visitors. Following sequential outbreaks in 2021, the country abandoned the Covid-zero policy and from late 2021 onwards, the country began the process of reopening its borders. Prior to September 9, 2022, Australia reported new COVID-19 case numbers daily.
