In 2022, private households in Germany paid a surcharge of 3.72 euro cents per kilowatt hour for electricity under the Renewable Energy Sources Act. In order to support renewable energy production in Germany, the surcharge is part of the electricity price and represents the differential costs between the market price for electricity and the financial support rate for renewable energy sources.
