Indian mobile device users were found to increasingly spend a majority of their time on app categories that fell under the media and entertainment genre between 2019 and 2021. By the fourth quarter of 2021, users spent nearly ** hours on social and communication apps alone. In fact, Indians accounted for ** percent of the world's total time spent on media and entertainment apps. This increased engagement with mobile apps can be attributed to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic as well as the government's Digital India campaign.
