Previews of new video games are a popular aspect of video gaming conventions as audiences are keen to discuss upcoming game releases. During the Gamescom in August 2022, action role-playing games accounted for 36 percent of social media discussions, up from a nine percent share of online buzz in the previous year. Platform games also increased their presence in online discussion, doubling the genre's social media mentions to a 26 percent share compared to 2021.
