Gennady Strekalov was the major Soviet cosmonaut, a term used in modern Russia and the former Soviet Union to describe an astronaut, having spent more than 268 days in space over the span of five missions. Vladimir Dzhanibekov followed, with a total of five flights and 145 days in open space.
