In Italy, in 2023, Infrastructure as a Service (SaaS) was the cloud computing service model that recorded the highest market revenue, which amounted to over *** billion euros. Software as a Service (IaaS) followed, with a revenue of *** billion euros. 

Cloud computing service models: IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS

Cloud computing services are divided into three main categories: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS). IaaS refers to cloud services offered by cloud providers on a pay-as-you-go basis. Furthermore, instead of using software, SaaS allows users to access applications over the internet, while PaaS - a combination of the first two models – describes services bought from cloud providers and used on a safe internet connection. In the Italian peninsula, as the most used model, IaaS accounts for over half of the total cloud market revenue, while SaaS occupied around ** percent of the market.

Cloud service providers

Cloud service providers offer services through three different organization types, i.e. public, private, and hybrid cloud, with the public being the most frequent in Italy. Nowadays, there are many cloud providers on the market, of which Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, and IBM Cloud, are just a few examples. Users can decide which company suits their needs and goals better based on the services they provide and according to the cloud solutions they want to implement.
