In 2020, Asia accounted for roughly 69 percent of the global demand for formaldehyde, with China alone representing 28 percent of the demand worldwide. Ranking next, but by a wide margin, was Europe, which accounted for some 14 percent. By contrast, formaldehyde demand in North America represented around ten percent of the global share. The production of formaldehyde is the second most common application of methanol.
