As of the year 2024, the overall prize money awarded at eSports events held across India amounted to *** million Indian rupees. This was short of the forecasted estimate owing to the introduction of the 28 percent GST on online gaming. However, forecasts suggest a surge in prize pools attributed to the growing interest in eSports by players, viewers, and investors alike as well as a new Online Gaming bill passed by the Indian government to regulate and promote online gaming, especially eSports.
