On the occasion of the law proposal aiming at facilitating the steps of the French who wish to carry the name of the parent who was not given to them at birth, a survey was carried out at the beginning of January 2022. It shows that if the French could choose between their mother's name, their father's name, or both, more than ** percent of them would do so. Among 18 to 24-year-olds, nearly **** would do so.
This study also shows that among those expressing a desire to change their name, a large proportion would choose to use both names, especially among the older generation. On the other hand, nearly **** of 18 to 24-year-olds and more than a of 35 to 49-year-olds would choose their mother's last name.
