In 2020, the leading airline groups worldwide based on passenger numbers was dominated by three prominent Chinese airlines: China Southern, China Eastern, and Air China. China Southern Airlines was the number one passenger carrier within China and worldwide, carrying million customers in 2020—with nearly ** percent of those passengers traveling within mainland China. China Eastern Airlines carried million passengers in 2020, making it the third-largest airline in the world and the second-largest airline in China.
