Based on a September 2021 survey, ** percent of U.S. oil and gas firms were not currently purchasing or planning to purchase carbon credits or carbon offsets. A further ** percent of respondents answered that they were not purchasing carbon credits and/or offsets, but were considering at least one of these options.
Carbon credit is a tradeable permit that allows a company to emit a certain volume of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases, while carbon offsets represent the production of sustainable energy or actions to counterbalance the use of fossil fuels.
